Commission authorises setting?up of the joint venture Hearst Mondadori Editoriale SRL

The Commission is giving the go?ahead to the setting?up in Italy of the joint venture Hearst Mondadori Editoriale SRL by the US company HMI International Holdings Inc and the Italian company Arnoldo Mondadori Editore S.p.A. The object of the joint venture is to publish and distribute an Italian version of the women's magazine "Cosmopolitan", which belongs to the Hearst group. The joint venture will neither create nor strengthen a dominant position and therefore does not raise any competition problems.

HMI is a subsidiary of the Hearst group, which is active in the communication business. Mondadori is the publishing arm of the Fininvest group.
The joint venture concerns the Italian market for women's magazines, which is subdivided into the readership market and the market for selling advertising space.
Although Mondadori owns a number of women's magazines, it does not enjoy a dominant position in Italy on the relevant market. The Hearst group is not present in Italy.
