The 2016/2017 Doctoral Programme in Law at the University of Catania | XXXII Cycle
In the context of the European Areas of Higher Education and of Research, the Ph.D. in Law at the University of Catania is a highly qualified academic programme providing a third-level degree for research and professional activities in both public and private institutions.
Following the internationalisation strategies of teaching and research pursued as primary objective by our Department, the Programme aims at training scholars and lawyers experienced in the methodologies and theoretical approaches of legal studies, providing them with suitable competencies and expertiseto manage the complexities and disciplinary interactions of the ‘globalized world’.
The Doctoral programme contributes to the scientific and methodological development of topics addressed by analysing and comparing various areas of research across different disciplinary arenas.
The Course schedule is further focused on specialized studies and disciplinary researches related to the specific topics and research question proposed by current candidates to finalize their doctoral thesis.
All Curricula include a special focus on questions related to the multilevel dimensions of fundamental rights protection as approached both by theoretical and practical perspectives.
The doctoral degree is awarded after a period of research lasting three years and following the presentation of an original doctoral thesis, positively evaluated by a final Committee, as a research work contributing to the progress of knowledge or methodologies in the chosen field of study.
The Ph.D. Programme in Law pursues the analysis of the multi-disciplinary and general methodological issues of legal sciences (with regard not only to the fields of positive law, but also to those areas specifically involving historical and philosophical questions) developing argumentation skills and qualified legal research tools through domestic, transnational, European, foreign and comparative law perspectives.
Approaching from a generalist perspective the training of legal experts fully aware of the complexities of today’s national and transnational laws and practices, the Course proposes 8 curricula, focusing on a plurality of disciplines and research areas of legal sciences, all of which displaying a direct or indirect European and international relevance.
All curricula aim at training scholars and professional legal experts focusing, from different disciplinary perspectives, on questions stemming from the interactions between national, supranational and international legal orders.
